Motiva Implants at Hakimi Plastic Surgery

Motiva implants are FDA-approved silicone gel breast implants designed to move, feel and behave just like your own breast tissue. While most traditional implants maintain a fixed shape regardless of position, Motiva offers options that adapt to your body, with Ergonomix implants that round out when you’re lying down and take on a subtle teardrop shape when you stand, mimicking the dynamics of natural breast tissue.

First introduced in 2010, Motiva implants have been placed in nearly four million patients across 85 countries. They earned FDA approval in September 2024 after completing one of the most rigorous clinical trials in history, with striking results: Motiva implants showed a 0.5% capsular contracture rate, a 0.6% rupture rate and patient satisfaction exceeding 97%, making them one of the safest implants on the market.

What Makes Motiva Implants Different?

Several proprietary technologies set Motiva apart from conventional breast implants.

ProgressiveGel®

Motiva offers two different gel types:

  • ProgressiveGel PLUS: Maintains a consistent shape, providing upper pole fullness in any position. ProgressiveGel PLUS balances structure with a natural softness.
  • ProgressiveGel ULTIMA: Has unique viscoelastic properties that allow it to adapt to your movements. Maintains a teardrop shape when standing and rounds out when lying down, just like natural breast tissue.

TrueMonobloc®

TrueMonobloc technology bonds the interior gel of Motiva implants with the outer shell, creating a more cohesive structure that resists stress without sacrificing movement or flexibility. Because the shell and the gel can’t be “separated,” they’re also less likely to ripple or show their edges.

BluSeal®

A lightly tinted barrier layer allows Dr. Hakimi to visually confirm the implant’s structural integrity before placement. The BluSeal layer also reduces gel bleed, the slow, microscopic leakage of silicone through the intact shell of a breast implant. While all silicone implants will eventually experience some gel bleed, less contributes to Motiva’s low capsular contracture rate.

SmoothSilk® Surface

Created using 3D nanotechnology, the outer shell features a smooth, uniform surface that minimizes inflammatory responses and reduces bacterial attachment. It’s this biocompatible design that contributes to Motiva’s remarkably low capsular contracture rate. There are also no reported cases of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) related to Motiva implants.

Your Motiva Implant Options

Motiva offers three distinct implant styles, each designed to meet different aesthetic goals. Dr. Hakimi will evaluate your anatomy, lifestyle and preferences during your consultation to recommend the best option for you.

  • Round implants are made with ProgressiveGel PLUS, maintaining their shape regardless of body position and making them ideal for patients who want consistent upper pole fullness.
  • Ergonomix implants use ProgressiveGel ULTIMA, a viscoelastic gel that adapts to your body’s movements. They take on a teardrop shape when standing and round out when lying down, mirroring the behavior of natural breast tissue.
  • Ergonomix2 implants are the most advanced option in the Motiva lineup. They are even softer than the original Ergonomix with enhanced flexibility and an improved TrueMonobloc+ structure. This allows them to be compressed further during placement, making them compatible with smaller incisions.

Beyond style, you’ll have all the options you’d expect from a premium implant line. Motiva implants come in a range of sizes and profiles, so Dr. Hakimi can tailor your results to your frame and aesthetic goals. Motiva’s flexible design is also compatible with smaller incisions and gentler techniques, so Dr. Hakimi can perform your breast augmentation under local anesthesia, meaning you stay awake and avoid the risks associated with general anesthesia.

Introducing
Preservé by Motiva

Dr. Hakimi is one of a handful of surgeons trained to perform the Preservé technique by Motiva, a minimally invasive approach to breast augmentation that prioritizes tissue preservation. Unlike traditional techniques that disrupt some of the natural ligaments of the breast to create a pocket, Preservé uses specialized tools to create space by gently pushing these ligaments aside.

Here’s how it works: Dr. Hakimi makes a small incision (3 cm or less) and inserts the Motiva Channel Separator to create a pathway through the breast tissue. Once in place, a Motiva Inflatable Balloon stretches the tissues to create a “nest” for the implant without cutting. Implants are then deployed through the Motiva Insertion Sleeve.

The result is minimal tissue disruption, no muscle involvement and a faster recovery. Because the ligaments and breast tissue are preserved, this minimally invasive technique can be performed using local anesthesia and has a 0% rate of inferior malposition (bottoming out).

What to Expect During Your Procedure

01 // Traditional Breast Augmentation

For traditional breast augmentation under general anesthesia, you’ll be asleep throughout surgery. Dr. Hakimi will make small, strategically placed incisions, create the breast pocket and carefully position your implants. The procedure typically takes one to two hours.

02 // Awake Breast Augmentation

For awake breast augmentation, you’ll receive local anesthesia along with oral medication to help you relax. You’ll remain conscious but very comfortable throughout the procedure. Many patients describe the experience as surprisingly easy and appreciate being able to communicate with Dr. Hakimi during surgery.

03 // Preservé Breast Augmentation

If you’re a candidate for the Preservé technique, the procedure takes approximately 30 minutes from incision to closure. The specialized tools allow for precise tissue elongation without cutting through breast structures, resulting in minimal discomfort and a remarkably quick recovery.

Recovery After Motiva Breast Augmentation

Recovery from breast augmentation with Motiva implants varies depending on the specifics of your procedure, notably implant placement (above or below the muscle). In general, most patients can return to light activities within a few days and resume their normal routines within one to two weeks.

Patients who undergo awake breast augmentation or the Preservé technique often experience faster recoveries than those who have traditional surgery under general anesthesia. Without the muscle involvement associated with submuscular placement, post-op discomfort tends to be milder, and many women find they can move their arms freely within days of surgery.

Dr. Hakimi will provide you with specific aftercare guidelines, including instructions on wearing compression garments and when you can safely return to exercise. Following these recommendations helps ensure your results develop smoothly and your implants settle into their optimal position.

FAQ

How Long Do Motiva Implants Last?

Motiva implants are designed for long-term durability. While no implant lasts forever, clinical data shows rupture rates of just 0.6% at three years. Many patients enjoy their results for 10 to 15 years or longer before considering replacement. Dr. Hakimi recommends periodic monitoring to check for any changes over time.

Are Motiva Implants Safe?

Motiva implants underwent one of the most rigorous clinical trials ever conducted under FDA guidelines. Three-year data showed a 0.5% capsular contracture rate, 0.6% rupture rate and no reported cases of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) or breast implant-associated squamous cell carcinoma (BIA-SCC). Nearly four million Motiva implants have been placed worldwide since 2010 with consistently low complication rates.

What’s the Difference Between Motiva and Traditional Silicone Implants?

Motiva implants feature several proprietary technologies that distinguish them from conventional options. The SmoothSilk surface reduces inflammatory responses, BluSeal provides visual confirmation of implant integrity, and the TrueMonobloc structure creates a more cohesive implant that resists rupture. The ProgressiveGel filling adapts to body movements in ways that traditional cohesive gels do not.

Can Motiva Implants Be Placed Over the Muscle?

Yes. Unlike many implants that perform best with submuscular placement, Motiva implants are less likely to ripple and can be positioned above the chest muscle. This preserves muscle function, eliminates animation deformity and often allows for a faster recovery. Dr. Hakimi will evaluate your anatomy to determine the best placement for your goals.

Am I a Candidate for the Preservé Technique?

The Preservé technique is designed for first-time breast augmentation patients who want a minimally invasive approach with faster recovery. Ideal candidates have adequate breast tissue and are looking for subtle to moderate enhancement. Patients with significant sagging or those seeking revision surgery may require a different approach. Dr. Hakimi will assess your candidacy during your consultation.
