What is IPL?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a form of laser therapy that releases varying wavelengths of light, penetrating deep into the skin. Used to minimize and/or remove age spots, sun damage, rosacea, hair, and more, IPL uses heat to destroy pigments beneath the skin to remove spots and hair follicles. If you have really dark skin, are sensitive to light, pregnant, or have a skin condition, you should discuss your options with Dr. Hakimi, as IPL may not be the best treatment option.

To begin your treatment, we will clean your skin and prepare the treatment areas with a cool gel. From there, we will use the IPL device to send out a pulsating light of different wavelengths to heat underneath the skin to destroy unwanted pigments and hair follicles. While most consider the pain to feel like a snapping rubber band on your skin, a numbing cream is available if needed. Treatment typically takes between 20 – 30 minutes, and you may need between 3 – 6 treatments, depending on the areas being addressed. Once the treatment is complete, you are free to return home. You may feel like you have a sunburn for a few hours, and you may experience some redness and bruising that shouldn’t last more than a day or two. After your treatment, you can return to your regularly scheduled day; however, you may experience some redness, swelling, and bruising. This is perfectly normal and should not last long. After a few short days, you will begin to notice softer and smoother skin with a renewed, youthful look. What is CO2 Laser?

CO2 laser treatments allow our patients the opportunity to address a number of issues. From fine lines around the eyes to deep wrinkles, acne scars, and surgical or trauma scars, this state-of-the-art laser technology provides a refreshed, youthful, smooth appearance. This 30 minute to one-hour treatment is tailored specifically to help you meet your goals. If you have elastic, non-oily skin and no pre-existing health conditions, you may be an ideal candidate for this treatment. To begin your procedure, you’ll either receive a local anesthetic or sedative, depending on the number of areas being treated. Then, the CO2 laser will vaporize layers of your skin using high-energy beams of light while the heat prompts the regrowth of collagen. After your treatment, you will be provided instructions on how to clean the treated areas, which will need to be done a few times a day. You will likely have some swelling and redness so keeping your face elevated while you sleep and putting an icepack on your face to reduce soreness can help. Depending on your treatment and treated areas, you will notice your skin starting to dry and peel after about a week and should notice your full results in about 1 month.
