How Does Breast Reduction Work?
Breast reduction surgery is an outpatient procedure and is conducted while you are under general anesthesia. The duration of the surgery depends on a few factors, including the incision type, the overall technique, and how much reduction is required. The areola and nipple area repositioning will also be a factor. Typically, liposuction is used for fat removal to reduce your breast size. During your private consultation, all of these aspects are addressed with Dr. Hakimi, as well as scarring. Based on the complexity of the reduction, either an anchor or a straight line (vertical) incision will be used. The breast tissue will then be removed, and the remaining skin and tissue will be tightened. After surgery, you will be observed closely in our private recovery area and then released home to begin the healing process. A medical sports bra will be put in place for a few days to improve blood circulation to the breasts during the initial healing period. Within about a month, the breasts will naturally fall into position and the post-op effects will go away. Following surgical breast reduction, you can enjoy the clothes you could not wear before and feel confident with your new shape. Keep in mind, it is important to maintain a healthy body weight so the results are not affected in a negative way.
