It’s All in a Name — Or Is It?

“My last name means ‘doctor’ in Farsi,” Dr. Hakimi says, which might make it seem like his path was predestined. In reality, it’s not his name that defines him — it’s his skill and dedication to his craft. Dr. Hakimi immigrated to the U.S. from Iran and went to medical school at UCLA, where he studied 3D tissue engineering. After graduating, he enrolled in the plastic surgery program at Loma Linda University and went on to complete a fellowship at the Plastic Surgery Center of Sacramento, where he learned from some of the best in the field. “I’ve been very fortunate,” he reflects. “I’ve had great mentors throughout my training and my academic career.”

While it’s true that Dr. Hakimi was born into a family deeply entrenched in the medical field, his reputation and professional identity have been earned, not inherited. His father, a respected surgeon, and his mother, a compassionate nurse, provided an environment that helped steer him toward medicine. “I had a lot of exposure to the medical world and my interests were nurtured with a certain level of expectation, but these expectations weren’t verbalized.”

He always wanted to work and connect with others, and he was driven by this passion. “There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to work with people and help them in some way,” he shares. “I wasn’t ever going to do math or engineering or something like that.” This clarity of purpose led him to pursue a career in plastic surgery, where he can not only apply his medical knowledge but meaningfully connect with patients and make a tangible difference in their lives. “There’s so much sadness in the world, I wanted to do something that could make people happy,” he says. “And the way that plastic surgery does that — it’s incredibly rewarding. I fell in love with it.”

“There’s a lot of confusion in the public because doctors have started branding their procedures. It’s such a disservice, because how is a patient supposed to do research and know what they’re really getting?”

A Philosophy of Transparency and Honesty

Dr. Hakimi’s approach to plastic surgery is grounded in a commitment to transparency and honesty. This is reflected in how he communicates with his patients, ensuring they have a clear understanding of every aspect of the surgical process. “There’s a lot of confusion in the public because doctors have started branding their procedures,” he says. “It’s such a disservice, because how is a patient supposed to do research and know what they’re really getting?”

In an industry often swayed by the allure of trendy procedure names, Dr. Hakimi has carved out a niche that emphasizes authenticity. By eschewing common marketing practices, he stands out as a surgeon you can trust, who helps you make decisions with full and accurate knowledge of the treatment options available. “This seems to be kind of rare, surprisingly,” he muses. “I thought it was the norm, but maybe it’s just my practice and how I do things.”

His philosophy extends beyond simple honesty about aesthetic procedures. Dr. Hakimi believes that educating patients about the realities of surgery — including the potential risks and expected outcomes — is fundamental to a successful patient-doctor relationship. “My role isn’t just to perform surgery, but to educate,” he asserts. “When patients understand their procedures fully, they are more satisfied with their results and feel more in control of their decisions.”

Reflecting on the feedback he receives, Dr. Hakimi considers it his greatest badge of honor that “honesty” is the word most frequently used in his patient reviews. It validates his approach and confirms that patients value his candid and thorough care. “It’s better than any award,” he says.

“After finding out what a patient really needs and what they want, it’s my job to give them their answers. And if it’s something I can’t do or a procedure I don’t perform — I tell them. When patients see that level of honesty, they respond to it. It helps build a different kind of relationship with them.”

Artistry Born of Passion & Precision

Dr. Hakimi views plastic surgery as an art form. His approach is one of a craftsman with a refined touch that has been honed through years of dedicated practice and training. He specializes in transforming the human body with the precision of a sculptor, where every procedure — whether it’s liposuction or a delicately balanced facelift — is performed to bring about improvements in aesthetic appeal while preserving each patient’s individuality.

True Artistry

To him, the true artistry in plastic surgery comes from the skill of the surgeon, not just the tools they use. “Not to be overly romantic about it, but when you look at a painting, it comes from the painter,” he explains. “Not what type of brush they use.” Dr. Hakimi believes that, just like in art, the vision of the artist and the subtleties of each individual’s anatomy are critical for guiding the surgical process and ensuring personalized outcomes that are inspirational and attainable.

“Everybody claims their results are great because they use A, B, or C machinery to achieve them, thinking they found the ‘secret sauce,’ but that couldn’t be further from the truth,” Dr. Hakimi elaborates. “It’s all in the training of your surgeon.” For him, there is no secret sauce, other than the ability to blend science with art in a profound way to create beauty that looks natural and enhances a patient’s inherent features.

Community, Not Competition

Beverly Hills is often considered the epicenter of plastic surgery. Known for its high density of top-tier cosmetic specialists, this locale draws patients from all over the world seeking the best in aesthetic enhancement. But instead of engaging in rivalry, Dr. Hakimi prefers to cultivate relationships based on mutual respect and growth, allowing him to focus on his practice’s unique offerings and build a collaborative environment that benefits both surgeons and patients.

“I can promise you — the relationship between plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills is better than anywhere else,” he notes. In a field often marked by intense competition, especially in a city known for its pursuit of perfection, Dr. Hakimi remains committed to integrity and quality rather than aggressive or cutthroat marketing tactics. He understands that each surgeon brings a unique touch to their work, catering to different patient needs and preferences.

This philosophy of cooperation over competition extends beyond professional courtesy — it is a strategic approach that enriches the entire community. By sharing insights and techniques, Dr. Hakimi and his colleagues ensure that innovation and high standards continue to thrive in Beverly Hills, enhancing the overall quality of their work and the care available to patients.

A Boutique Practice

Dr. Hakimi is known for his surgical excellence, but his practice also stands out for its boutique-style approach to patient care. At Hakimi Plastic Surgery, there is one doctor, one patient coordinator and zero salespeople. Unlike high-volume plastic surgery centers that focus on getting as many people in the door as possible, Dr. Hakimi tailors each consultation and procedure to the patient in front of him. “I talk to my patients and listen to them,” he says. “I’m interested in seeing who they are and where they’re coming from.”

This guarantees that every patient’s journey is guided by expertise and genuine care, without the pressure of sales tactics or external motivations. “It’s important that they’re coming from a place of peace,” he says. Even in the operating room, Dr. Hakimi continues to engage with his patients to make sure they feel safe and comfortable. “When my patients are awake — I talk to every single one of them throughout the surgery.” Maintaining an ongoing dialogue helps alleviate anxieties but also strengthens the trust and rapport between doctor and patient, building a deeper connection that enhances the overall patient experience.

“Not to be overly romantic about it, but when you look at a painting, it comes from the painter. Not what type of brush they use.”
